Practice with the included examples

Walk through a changed number, a subtle border, a folder of reports, and reordered CSV rows.

For the Windows app · Version 0.9.16

1. Find one changed number

Open Samples & tour at the top of the app and choose One changed number. Selecting a sample loads it and runs the comparison for you.

  1. Select the Different result.
  2. Look for the Content detail and read its baseline and new values.
  3. Double-click the detail to open the two sheets together.
  4. Use ← Back to results to return.

Now try Perfect match. This time the result should be Same. There is no changed cell to navigate to.

2. Find a formatting change

Choose One changed border from Samples & tour. Open the change side by side and turn off Show cell markers for a moment. This makes the workbook’s own border easier to inspect. Turn the markers back on when you finish.

To see a busier workbook, choose Full guided showcase and open 01 Executive Dashboard.xlsx. It includes changes in values, formulas, fonts, fills, layout, and other workbook details. Use the Category filter to review one kind at a time.

3. Check an analysis update

Open Check that two runs produced the same Excel reports and download its practice ZIP. Extract it before using the files.

  1. Compare the two copies of 01 Response profile.xlsx: they should be Same.
  2. Switch to Two folders and compare Baseline with Rerun.
  3. Expect two matching files and one changed file.
  4. Open the banner tables result. D8 changes from 46 to 64.

This is the kind of check we built the app for: the same analysis, the same report layout, and one unexpected output change.

4. See what an option changes

The workbook options lesson starts with six differences. A tolerance of 0.01 reduces that to five: the small average change is no longer reported, while the changed order count remains. Follow the written workbook options guide for the formula, rich-text, and timestamp steps.

The CSV lesson starts with twelve field differences caused by reordered people. Match by Record ID and the files are Same. The inventory exercise then shows a real quantity change and a new product.

The limits lesson uses a dispatch file with 125 differences. Stop at 100 first, then choose No limit to see why 100+ was only a partial count.

Where the sample files live

Use Samples & tour → Open the sample files folder to find the examples installed with the app. The individual CSV example and TSV example cards are useful for a quick look at delimited data.

Keep an untouched copy of downloaded exercises if you want to repeat them. If you make your own edits, the expected counts will change. To return to a normal setup after experimenting, use New; it clears selections and restores the default comparison settings.
