Accept reviewed output as the new baseline

Replace an approved baseline deliberately, with a dated safety copy and a way back.

For the Windows app · Version 0.9.16

Use this after reviewing the changes

Sometimes the new result is correct and should become the reference for future runs. Review the differences first. Acceptance is a file replacement, not a way to dismiss selected changed cells.

Accept new output as baseline… replaces the entire original baseline file. Normal comparison does not alter originals; this action does. The new-output source file remains unchanged.

The action is available for a Different result with reusable Windows paths and matching supported file extensions. If you dragged files in, use the Choose buttons or Refresh selections… first.

Accept the new file

  1. Select the changed pair and inspect it.
  2. Click Accept new output as baseline….
  3. Read both full file paths in the confirmation. Make sure you are replacing the intended baseline.
  4. Click Accept as baseline.
  5. The app saves a dated copy of the old baseline, validates the replacement, and replaces the baseline.
  6. Click Compare again when you want a fresh result against the updated file.

The existing result remains marked Accepted as evidence of what you reviewed. It does not quietly turn the old comparison into a new Same result.

Undo during the same app session

Click Undo acceptance, then Restore previous baseline. The app restores the saved baseline and keeps another backup of the accepted output.

Undo refuses to overwrite the baseline if it has changed since acceptance. That protects edits made after the replacement. The automatic Undo record lasts for the current app session; restarting the app does not recreate that record.

Find or clear the backups

Open backup folder opens the saved safety copies. They remain after the app closes and can be used for later manual recovery. The folder is %LOCALAPPDATA%\Workbook Compare Pro\Baseline Backups.

Under Help & support, Backup storage maintenance → Empty baseline backup folder… shows the location, file count, and size. Permanently empty folder deletes those copies and removes pending Undo availability. Keep any backup you need before doing that.

If replacement is blocked, close Excel or any other program holding the file open and check that you can write to the baseline folder.
